Love is the Beast

L’amour est la bête_2025 provocatively reinterprets the narrative of “Beauty and the Beast,” dissecting the duality of love and vulnerability through a glass bell brimming with thousands of menacing pins. While this bell claims to offer protection, it ironically suffocates the rose, the embodiment of love, restricting its true potential. Outside its confines, the rose flourishes, suggesting that authentic love thrives in freedom, not confinement.

At the heart of the piece is a mirror that confronts the viewer with their own reflection, exposing the “beast” lurking within, a raw metaphor for the fears and dark impulses that love can unearth. This unsettling reflection compels us to grapple with our vulnerabilities and unacknowledged truths.

By contrasting the supposed safety of the glass bell with the harsh reality of the pins, the artwork invites a bold interrogation of our perceptions. It challenges us to confront the inherent risks of love and the brutal honesty required for genuine connection, igniting a dialogue that is both uncomfortable and essential.
